Arlene B. Gordon

Arlene B. Gordon, 94, a resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Blue Knob, passed away Wednesday at the Home. She was born in Rockford Ill., daughter of the late Taylor and Luella (Miller) Houston. On June 4, 1955, she married Russell C. Gordon. He preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1984.

Surviving are three children: Dannielle R. Gordon, Luella A. Eckard (Doug) and Jay S. Gordon (Melissa); eight grandchildren: Joseph (Lyndsay), Josh (Sarah), Kaylie, Cassie, Kristyn (Jared), Kyle, Ava and Ellie; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Taylor Houston Jr.

Arlene was a 1948 graduate of Harlem High School, Rockford, Ill., and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. She retired as a machinist from Veeder-Root and previously did civil service work. She was a member of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and was a member of the Rockford Peaches in 1949. She enjoyed bird watching, fishing and especially spending time with family.

Friends will be received from 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Mount Hope U.C.C., 845 Knob Road, Portage, Pastor Wendy Farber officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
