Diehl
Robert E. Diehl, 89, of Altoona, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona. He was born at Altoona Mercy Hospital, a son of James E. and Winifred (Beaver) Diehl.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. Rickard, on Nov. 13 of 2024; and three siblings: James Diehl of Altoona, Harold Diehl of Altoona and Carol Stiffler of Altoona.
Surviving is a son, Robert B. Diehl, of York, Pa.; and a sister, Helen Allison of Blairsville.
Bob was a 1954 graduate of Altoona High School.
He retired from Penelec/GPU Homer City Power Plant in 1994.
Bob, throughout his lifetime, enjoyed working on cars and trucks. His pride and joy was the 1955 Chevy Belair he restored from the frame up. He continued to enjoy the car until his passing.
After retirement, Bob expanded his interests to bowling, square dancing and tinkering around the house and garage. He also started to teach himself how to play guitar. Occasionally, you would find him playing on open mic night at the Unter Uns Music Society. He would strum and sing older country songs.
Bob joined the Army Reserves in 1960. When he left the service in 1966, he had obtained the rank of Spec. 4.
Bob was a member of The Hiram #616 and Jaffa Shrine of Altoona. He would drive his 55 Chevy in the Jaffa parades or drive the tow vehicle for the greeters. He achieved his 50-year pins for both the lodge and Jaffa.
Bob was surrounded by family and friends at the time of his passing. His comfort through the process was knowing he would be reunited with Barb, his wife of 61 years.
Friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona. Interment will follow at Alto-Reste Park.
