Melvin “Mebs” Caldwell Lewis III, 62, of Tyrone, passed away at home surrounded by his family, on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025. He was born in Tyrone on Jan. 25, 1963, the son of the late Melvin and Patricia (Thompson) Lewis Jr.
Mebs is survived by his son, Shane Lewis; grandsons: Bowin Ryder, Remington Cyrus and Oakley Reel Lewis; siblings: Wetzel, Harry (Lori), Mark (Betsy) Lewis, Suzanne (Randy) Fink, Carol (Ken) Decker and Michelle (Greg) Weight; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bonita Daye; and a niece, Melissa Weight.
Mebs worked for G&R Excavating and was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of the Moose and the Hookies. He was an outdoorsman and participated in dart and pool league, enjoyed trout fishing, going dancing and loved anything Penn State.
A noon funeral service for Melvin “Mebs” Caldwell Lewis III will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., with Pastor Bill Ewing officiating.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, as well as on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be made at Bald Eagle Cemetery. Contributions in Mebs’ memory may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, or the funeral home on behalf of the family.
