Lee E. Owen, 103, Bellwood, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter.
He was born in Millerstown, son of the late Budd and Hannah (McConnell) Owen.
On Oct. 20, 1951, he married Mary J. Vrabel at the Church of Immaculate Conception in Madera. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2020.
Lee is survived by his four children: Lee E. Owen II of Bellwood, Susan A. Kapfhammer of Dysart, Mary G. (Robert) Walker of Antis Township and Anne J. (Dave) Revitsky of Butler; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Thomas Owen and Emily Libby; and two sons-in-law, James Kapfhammer and Donald Walker.
Lee was a graduate of Milton Hershey School and Penn State University. During World War II, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Midway as an aviation machinist servicing the Vought (F4U) Corsair. He retired as a tool and die maker at Phillips ECG, Altoona, and formerly taught at Altoona Vocational Technical School. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood, and Knights of Columbus Monsignor Edward O'Malley Chapter 8075 Bellwood.
Lee enjoyed photography, reading, gardening, bowling, cross-country skiing, jogging and exercising at the gym. He had a passion for airplanes. Lee held his pilot's license and enjoyed flying along with building airplanes through the Experimental Aircraft Association.
Lee's never-ending love of continually learning will be forever instilled in his grandchildren.
After the untimely death of his son-in-law, James, he became a strong support system for Susan and not only a loving grandfather, but a father figure to her children.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood, where a vigil for the deceased will also be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood, with the Rev. Michael Pleva, celebrant. Committal rites, with military honors, will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in his memory be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellwood or Bellwood-Antis Public Library.
