Joanne C. Claar, 95, of Altoona, entered into eternal rest on Monday at Celebration Villa, surrounded by her family in Duncansville. Joanne was born in Altoona, daughter of the late John and Mary Grace (Pretola) Roccio.
She later married Sheldon “Bud” Claar, who preceded her in death in 2004.
Joanne is survived by her loving daughter, Pamela Smith of Duncansville; brother, James Roccio of Johnstown; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her son-in-law, James C. Smith; three siblings: Robert and Richard Roccio and Elizabeth Torso.
Joanne was Catholic by faith and a member at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Altoona.
Joanne worked many years for Saf-T-Bak, a manufacturing company focused on hunting and fishing apparel and insulated garments.
She enjoyed shopping, traveling and was an avid reader. She especially loved her family gatherings.
Friends and family will be received at the 10 a.m. funeral Mass on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5519 Sixth Ave., Altoona. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
