Joan Marie Conroy, 92, of Manassas, Va., formerly of Altoona, passed away Tuesday at Paramount Senior Living in Virginia. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Henry T. and Angeline (Cancilla) Mangiacarne.
Joan married Ralph J. Conroy on Feb. 27, 1954. He preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 2010.
She is survived by her three children: Michael R. Conroy of Duncannon, Pa., Christopher P. Conroy of Denver, Colo., and Marie E. Hileman of Bristow, Va.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, William “Bill” Mangiacarne, of Portage.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Mangiacarne.
Joan was a 1951 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and member of The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
She worked as a secretary for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in York, Pa., and was the secretary for their family business, Conroy Machine Shop.
Joan enjoyed traveling, crocheting, spending winters in Florida and summers at the beach with her family.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, at The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, 1 Cathedral Square, Altoona, with Monsignor Stanley B. Carson, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, in Altoona.
