James C. Getz

James was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years and Tyrone High School sweetheart, Patricia (DeLong) Getz.

Surviving are children: Deborah DVorsak (Tony) of Beaver Falls, Charles Getz (Donna) of Beaver Falls and James Getz (Kathy) of Revloc; grandchildren: Gretchen, Scott (Molly), Brian (Aubrey), KathyJo and Carrie; great-grandchildren: Natalie, Madeleine, Luke, Finley and Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James graduated from IUP with a degree in music education, Penn State with a master’s degree in music, and University of Rochester with a master’s degree in guidance counseling. He was a music teacher, then guidance counselor, starting at Hastings High School and then at Cambria Heights.

He honorably served our nation in the Air Force and was a part of the Air Force band at Wright Patterson Air Force base.

James had a passion for music and played in bands up until two years before his passing.

He was a founding member of the Northern Cambria Community Band and was a member of Hastings Methodist Church.

Above all else, James enjoyed playing games, daily crossword puzzles and spending time with his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’ honor to the Hastings Public Library; or to the Hastings Community Pool.

A viewing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home, 333 Beaver St., Hastings.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, at Hastings United Methodist Church, 162 Fourth Ave., Hastings. James will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery.
