George J. Settle, 86, Antis Township, died Saturday at his home. He was born in Huston Township, son of the late Edward F. and Margaret E. (Hoover) Settle.
George was twice married, first to Iona Maxine Bridges on May 16, 1958, in Grazierville. She preceded him in death June 21, 2018. He then married Carol L. Conklin on June 27, 2020, in Tyrone.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; four grandchildren: Angel Marie Hamp, Allen Richard Hamp, George William Settle and Danielle Marie Hamp; 11 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Brenda Johnson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Jane Stone; and seven siblings: Jacob, Franklin, Mary, Maude, Lavada, Edna and Belva.
George retired as a park security officer at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park and DelGrosso Foods sauce plant. He formerly served as a Philadelphia police officer, Blair County prison guard and Pennsylvania National Guard member.
He attended Grazierville United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in activities at the Tyrone Senior Center. His favorite pastimes were Sunday drives and taking his grandchildren to Knoebels and DelGrosso’s amusement parks.
George and Iona were proud to be friends with President Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter back when they resided in Warriors Mark.
To honor his wishes, there will be no viewing, visitation or funeral service. Interment will be at Birmingham Cemetery.
