Anna Mae Carey

Anna Mae Carey, affectionately known as “Mimi” by her grandchildren, 92, Altoona, passed away Saturday morning at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Lloyd and Thelma (Smeltzer) Gummo.
She married Richard Eugene Carey, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2004.
She is survived by children: Cynthia Belile (Richard) in New York, Cathy Snyder (Jay) of Ocala, Fla., Richard Carey (Karen) in New York, Cheryl Carey of Altoona, Corinna McIntosh (Donald) in New York and Michael Carey (Amy) of Altoona; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd Gummo (Rebecca) of Bellwood.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Pamela Ann; and siblings: Jim, Melvin “Dutch” and Patty.
Anna had a dedicated career at Westinghouse in New York until its closure and achieved her GED at the age of 40. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and a proud member of the Red Hat Society. Additionally, she enjoyed knitting in her earlier years and found joy in camping and shopping.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Inc., 719 N 4th Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will immediately follow. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery.
