Teddy L. "Ted" Ventre, 74, of Hollidaysburg, died peacefully Tuesday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in Duncansville, son of the late Dominic "Cracker" and Leona "Sis" (Neely) Ventre.
He is survived by his sons, Richard Johnston and Greg Johnston; daughter-in-law, Nikole; two grandchildren, Dominik and Dylan Johnston, who referred to him as "Pap V"; his beloved Labradoodle and the furriest of companions, Bradshaw; and granddog, Bruno. Ted is also survived by his brother, Terry Ventre; and nieces, Elizabeth and Lesley Ventre.
Ted was preceded in death by his second wife of 37 years, Sharyn (McGraw) Ventre, in 2023. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Susan (Kauffmann) Ventre; and sister-in-law, Linda Ventre.
Ted was a 1969 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School and served in the U.S. Army/Army Reserves from 1971-77, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Ted spent his professional career working at his family's business, D.C. Ventre & Sons Inc., and served as president.
Ted was a member of The Well Ministry Center in Altoona. He served on the Blair Township Planning Commission and Blair Township Sewer Authority and was a member of the Duncansville VFW.
He was a man whose heart of gold could only be equaled by his dedication to his family and friends. Ted was a man who knew the true meaning and importance of a handshake, the value of an honest day's work and the significance of finishing what you start.
Those blessed to have known him knew of his loyalty and dependability, knew he enjoyed spending time outdoors -- especially on the mountain ground he shared with his brother -- and knew he loved rooting for the Nittany Lions.
Friends and family will be received from 2 until the 5 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, with Pastor John Godissart officiating. Military Honors will be performed by Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
