Mary Josephine Cox

She married Robert E. Cox Sr., who preceded her in death April 3, 1999.

Surviving are four children: son, Robert Jr. (Leslie) of Glenside; daughter, Lisa (Jim) of Macedon, N.Y.; daughter, Sandra (Mike) of Lewistown; and son, Richard (Darla) of Altoona; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six siblings: Josephine, Ted, Ann, Patty, Gloria and Tom; numerous extended family members; and special neighbors: Stephen, Courtney and Fletcher.

Mary was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a special niece, Tracy.

Mrs. Cox attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona.

She attended Gallitzin High School.

Mary was first employed by Altoona Shoe Co., and later retired from the Jaffa Shrine Center.

Mary’s faith was especially important to her and she was at peace knowing God was in her life.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, siblings, nieces and nephews. Mary was referred to as the matriarch of the family and her passing will leave a void in so many hearts.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held; and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at the funeral home.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by the Franciscan Fathers on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11th St., Altoona.

Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
