James E. Murray, 89, a resident of The Preserve at Cedarwood, formerly of Warriors Mark, passed away Saturday. He was born in Warriors Mark, the son of James C. and Gertrude L. (Clark) Murray.

On June 30, 1956, in Tyrone, he married B. Eileen Chronister, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Greg Murray (Tina); daughters, Carolyn Updike (Jim) and Connie Thomas (Dave), all of Warriors Mark; grandchildren: Tyler Updike (Kala), James Updike (Kara), Matthew Murray (Rachel), Nikki Thomas and Jessica Stringer (Charles); great-grandson, Nolan James Updike, and baby Murray on the way; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Lois Carper.

He was preceded in death by brothers, John and Donald.

James attended Warriors Mark School. Upon the death of his father, he attended the Milton Hershey School, graduating in 1954.

He served in the Army and National Guard from 1959-68.

James was employed by Westvaco Paper and Pulp and then Agway as a service technician until his retirement.

He was a life member of the Warriors Mark-Franklin Volunteer Fire Company and a member of Spring Mount Church of the Brethren.

James loved fishing, hunting, gardening and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played baseball for the U.S. Army.

He and his wife were very involved in the upbringing of the Spring Mount youth. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, 3784 Warriors Mark Path, Warriors Mark; and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, at Spring Mount Church of the Brethren, 1690 Ridge Road, Warriors Mark, with Pastor Todd Templeton officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Spring Mount Cemetery.
