Iva Marie Walter of Bellwood passed away peacefully on Friday at Greenwood Village, Lewistown, at the age of 91.
She was born in Blandburg, daughter of the late Frank and Iva (Thomas) Lovell. She married Donald O. Walter on Jan. 24, 1954, in Blandburg. He preceded her in death after 58 years of marriage.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Arthur, James, Charles and Thomas Lovell; and five sisters: Ellen Britton, Marian Gates, Betty Hescox, Sally Meyer and Margaret Lender.
Marie is survived by her four children: Mark Walter, Julie (Lynn) Mitchell, Douglas (Tricia) Walter and Keith (Valerie) Walter; six grandchildren: Andrea (Jon) Baker, Michael (Jessica) Walter, Kaylene Walter, Patrick Mitchell, Chad Walter and Lindsay (Bryan) Kyper; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Baker. Also surviving are her two sisters, Nancy Hann and Susan McGowan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A 1952 graduate of Reade Township High School in Blandburg, Marie retired in 1991 from Stroehmann Bakery in Altoona, where she worked many years as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in
Bellwood for more than 50 years. There, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and belonged to
United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Spring Lake Sportsman Association.
Marie loved gardening at home, especially planting her flower beds every year. An avid reader, she volunteered at the Bellwood Library. She enjoyed swimming in the summers, a great cup of tea, Texas Hot Dogs, Meadow's Frozen Custard and Penn State football. She cherished Pinochle card club parties with friends, watching ice skating, vacations at Yaupon Beach in North Carolina and any show or movie starring Tom Selleck.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Celebrations Villa of Reedsville, where Marie lived for the last two years, for their compassionate care and wonderful programs.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday at the funeral home with Norm Saylor officiating. Interment will follow at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Marie's memory be made to the Bellwood-Antis Public Library, 526 Main St., Bellwood, PA 16617.
