David L. Kiel, 75, of Portage, passed away at home Monday. He was born in Altoona, the son of Viola (Smardo) and Walter Kiel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Brian Kiel; and numerous extended family members.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Yusko) Kiel, of Portage; their son, Justin Kiel and his wife, Mary (Plunkett); and his grandson, Dallas Kiel, all of Portage. Dave is also survived by his brother, Les Kiel, and his wife, Margo (Mastaler), of Cresson; sister-in-law, Dee Kiel of Somerset; brother-in-law, Gary Yusko, and his wife, Paula (O’Donnell) of Portage; nieces and nephews: Ashlee Kiel (Todd Holsopple), Nicholas Kiel and Josh Yusko (Tonya Eppley); his great-nephew and great-niece, Shawn and Ashley; and family friend, Art Noel.
Dave was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and a retired employee of Conrail.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and participated in the Standing Stone Bassmasters, Redman Tournament and Trail and Bass Pro Fishing. He also enjoyed drag racing, most recently the Keystone Raceway Park and trips to “Stagger Inn” Camp. Dave loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Dallas.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. followed by visitation until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2025, at Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home Inc., Portage. Committal will be held at a later date at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Johnstown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Dave’s name to Traditional Angler of Pennsylvania (TAP), 4 Sherry Lane, Portage, PA 15946.
