Burket

Betty Jane Burket, 101, of State College, formerly of Altoona, died Friday at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born in Marklesburg, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Edward Z. and Ruth Simm Utts.

On April 5, 1947, she married Donald L. Burket, who preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2018.

She is survived by her daughter, Beth Burket Heinemann; and her son-in-law, Dr. Paul Heinemann of State College; three grandchildren: Julia Heinemann (Josh Sholes) of Ottawa, Ontario, Christian Heinemann (Tiana Soles) of Lancaster, and Allison Heinemann (Kristen Scribner) of Paoli; a great-granddaughter, Amelia; a sister-in-law, Beverly Neil of Altoona; many nephews, nieces and cherished friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

Betty graduated from Altoona High School in 1942 and from Altoona Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She was a registered nurse, keeping her license active until she was 87 years old. She worked at Altoona Hospital in labor and delivery, and at Valley View Nursing Home. In her later years, she worked in hospice and also cared for many friends and family members.

Betty was a member of Juniata United Methodist Church in Altoona. She was very involved in her church, volunteering for many committees and organizations that the church supported. As important as church was to Betty, her husband and family were most important of all.

The funeral service will be private.

A public celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
