Arlene Ruth Balestino

Arlene Ruth Balestino, 80, of Altoona, passed away Tuesday at Hilltop Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Sherman and Marian (Wilson) Dodson.
On Aug. 31, 1968, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona, Arlene married George A. Balestino, who preceded her in death on April 10, 2017.
She is survived by her son, Geo Balestino (Suzanne) of North Easton, Mass.; two daughters, Kerry Gority (John) of Altoona and Jenny Taylor (Mike) of Mt. Holly Springs; seven grandchildren: Johnny Gority, Amelia Gority, Madison Taylor, Anna Balestino, Evan Taylor, Gia Balestino and Lucas Gority. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Arlene was a 1963 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. She enjoyed a lengthy career with Home Interiors, where she shared her love of decorating and gift giving for more than 20 years. After retirement, she cared for her grandchildren and other children who became part of her family. Her nurturing heart and joyful spirit touched every child she cared for.
Arlene was a woman of deep faith and lifelong devotion to God. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she found great comfort in her faith community, and was also a proud member of the Catholic Daughters. She would also attend Dry Run Baptist with her special neighbors.
Arlene deeply loved her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent with them. Her family was truly her greatest joy.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 511 20th St., Altoona, with Father Lubomir Strecok, celebrant.
Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
