Myra E. Dixon

Sept. 17, 1933 – Sept. 23, 2025

Myra E. Dixon, 92, of Portage, Ind., formerly of Tyrone, passed away Sept. 23, 2025. She was born in Tyrone, a daughter of the late Clarence "Stump" and Kathryn (Dillon) Williams.

She married James Arthur Dixon Sr. in 1954 at Tyrone Church of the Brethren. He preceded her in death in 1981.

Myra is survived by three children: Robert (Glenda) Dixon, Tammy Gorby and Jane Beaudry and partner, Ron Springman, all in Indiana; grandchildren:Anthony (Breanna), Bryan (Kayla) Dixon, and Dillon (Maddie) and Derek (Rebekah) Beaudry; four great-grandsons: Maverick, Maddox, Owen and Landon; and two great-granddaughters, Ella and Daphne.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded by a son, James Dixon Jr.; a grandson, Kevin Dixon; a son-in-law, Jeff Gorby; and siblings: Jane Ray, Tom Williams, June Burkett, Freda Slemmer, and James, Emery and John Daughenbaugh.

Myra was a 1953 graduate of Tyrone High School.

She worked at the Portage High School cafeteria and retired in 1992. She then started at Valparaiso University as a cook, retiring in 2007.

Myra was of the Protestant faith and a member of Bald Eagle United Methodist Church.

She also belonged to the American Legion Post #260 in Indiana, as well as the Moose Lodge in Indiana.

Myra enjoyed playing bingo and going bowling. She was also a coffee aficionado who enjoyed a good cup more than anything.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone; and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at the funeral home, with Pastor Cooper Ray officiating. Interment will be made at Baughman Cemetery.
