Marvin Russell Livermore Jr., 86, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday with his wife of 62 years, Nancy J. (Rollason) Livermore, by his side. Marvin was born in Huntingdon, son of the late Marvin R. Livermore Sr. and Virginia (Witters) Livermore.
He is survived by his wife; and children: Jeff (Kelli) Livermore, Brian (Melissa) Livermore and Charla (John) DeJager; as well as seven grandchildren: Ashli (Jason) Yoder, Troy Livermore, Jesse DeJager, Sydney DeJager, Sadie (Tyler) Wilkinson, Grace DeJager and Joseph DeJager; a great-granddaughter, Lucy Yoder; his sister, Geraldine
(Livermore) Wilkinson; and numerous extended family.
Marvin graduated from Altoona High School in 1956, worked as an apprentice in a machine shop and served in the United States Army reserves.
He married Nancy on June 1, 1963.
Marvin spent most of his career working as a plant manager, first for the Proctor Silex Corp. in Bellmeade, then later for Roaring Spring Blank Book Co. in Martinsburg, from which he retired.
Marvin's lifelong hobby was bowling. He participated in leagues at various lanes, including Holiday Bowl, until his passing. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, took up golf in later years, and loved to play cards (especially pinochle). He was a faithful fan of his Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and often cheered on his children and grandchildren at their sporting and music events.
He'll be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather whose playful sense of humor brought joy to any family gathering.
For most of his life, Marvin was an active member of Simpson-Temple United Parish serving as a trustee, usher and choir member until it closed, at which time he and Nancy joined Westminster Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at Westminster Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1401 Frankstown Road, Hollidaysburg, with coffee and light refreshments following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marvin's honor to Westminster Orthodox Presbyterian Church; or the Altoona Food Bank.
