Louis A. Conte, 84, of Altoona, passed away Wednesday evening at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late John B. and Susan (Nardelli) Conte.
He is survived by his siblings: John D. Conte (Mary), Robert Conte and Carol Schmittle, all of Altoona, Fran Balestino of Hollidaysburg and Susan Monroe (Jim) of North Huntingdon; a sister-in-law, Sharon Conte; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Louis was preceded in death by stepmother, Olga Conte; two brothers, Anthony Conte (Joan) and Richard Conte; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Balestino and Jack Schmittle.
He was a graduate of Altoona High School and retired after 44 years of service from the Altoona Area School District.
Louis was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
He was an avid sports fan, especially Penn State, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11th St., Altoona.
Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
The family asks that contributions be made in Louis' memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church Restoration Fund, 806 11th St., Altoona, PA 16602.
