Elwood T. Claar, 92, of Duncansville, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Claysburg, son of the late Jesse and Goldie (Dively) Claar.
He married Patricia Burket on Aug. 19, 1957, in Winchester, Va. She passed away on April 21, 2013.
Surviving are three sons: Elwood Jr. and wife, Deborah, and Scott and wife, Deborah, both of Duncansville; and Steven and wife, Jackie, of Bellwood; a daughter, Tracey Shoop and husband, Joseph, of Hollidaysburg; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rhea Acker and husband, James, of Claysburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Dale Claar.
Elwood was a member of Upper Claar Church of the Brethren.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
Elwood was a self-employed contractor, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Duncansville VFW, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and watching the Pirates and Steelers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, at Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at Upper Claar Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Mark Wyland officiating. Interment at Upper Claar Cemetery.
