Betty J. ‘Betty Boop’ Kelley

Betty J. "Betty Boop" Kelley, 90, of Altoona, died Tuesday afternoon at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of the late John Andrew and Leah Emma (Cherry) Melhorn.

Surviving are three children: son, Bill Kelley (Edie), and daughters, Susie Rossman (Steve) and Missy Kelley; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Ruth Kelley.

Betty was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Kelley.

Ms. Kelley was of the Lutheran faith.

She attended Roosevelt Junior High School, and then graduated in 1954 from Altoona High School.

She was formerly employed by Tritex Sportswear and Waffle King Restaurant. She later retired from Weis Markets.

Betty enjoyed going out to eat, bowling, puzzles, country western music, her kitty cats, playing solitaire, word-find/crossword puzzles and Halloween (her favorite holiday). She was an avid Elvis fan, and she also enjoyed Black Friday shopping.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona. Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park.
