Jerry L. Claar, 81, of Claysburg, passed away Wednesday at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring. He was born in Queen, son of the late Wilmer and Florence (Eicher) Claar.
He married Faye Beegle on Nov. 15, 1962, in Winchester, Va.
Surviving are his wife; daughters: Susie Berkey and husband, Chris, and their son, Joshua; Annette Crawford and husband, Terry, and their daughters, Brandi (Adam) and Marci (Shane); and Jody and Jessica, and their families. He is also survived by great-grandchildren: Jordan, Jenna, Lillian, Levi, Addison, Beau and Nora; sister-in-law, Ruby Claar; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Wilmer Jr. and Calvin; and his half-sister, Florence Woodring.
Jerry was employed for 29 years at Standard Register in Bedford until its closing. He then operated an excavation business for 26 years.
Jerry drove the #59 racecar for 20 years, winning five track championships, between Jennerstown, Everett and Hesston.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Queen Memorial Church, Claysburg Area Public Library or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
