Gerald M. “Jerry” Balasco, 95, formerly of Altoona, passed away Saturday surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Mary E. (DeAngelis) and Ralph Balasco.

On July 29, 1953, he married Barbara K. Ebersole, who preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2022.

Surviving are his sons: Dale (Katheryn) Balasco and Brian Balasco, both of Bucks County, and Joel (Mary) Balasco in North Carolina; his siblings, Theresa Pellegrine of Altoona and Ronald Balasco (Barbara) of Fairless Hills; seven grandchildren: Jerry, Kyle, Trey, Thomas, Christopher, Jesse and Holly; 12 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Jane) Balasco; and a brother-in-law, Steve Pellegrine.

Jerry was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School and shortly after served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was also a member of the 28th Infantry Division Band.

He retired as a supervisor for U.S. Steel Fairless Works. He also enjoyed some time working at Burlington Testing in New Jersey.

Jerry was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He attended St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Newtown and St. Bede of Venerable Church of Holland.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until noon on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, at Santella Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at noon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
