It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Franklin L. Jones, 87, of Hollidaysburg, on Wednesday. He was our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin. He will be greatly missed.
Born in Altoona, Franklin was the son of the late Franklin L. Sr. and Cora (Fisher) Jones. On Jan. 30, 1959, he married Marianne (Bernard) Jones in Grosslittgen, Germany, as he was stationed there while serving in the United States Air Force. Franklin was a volunteer at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona. He retired from PPG in 1998.
Surviving are his children, David Jones (Tamsen) and Linda Shoup (Jim Sigrist). He was a proud grandfather to Jason (Taylor), Nick, Ben, Sara (Joe) and Ethan (Melissa); and great-grandfather to Tyler, Jennifer and Owen Shoup. Franklin is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth Jones (Marci) and David Jones (Marge).
He was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Wilt; a brother, Gary Jones; a brother-in-law, Gary Wilt; a sister-in-law, Jeannie Jones; and his son-in-law, Rodger Shoup.
Franklin was an avid hunter, camper and gardener. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, wife, children and camping friends.
At the request of the deceased, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
