Frances Arlene Young, 95, of Altoona died peacefully at home.
She was a daughter of the late John “Jack” Gillmen and Alma (Isenberg) Haigh. She was the stepdaughter of the late Jim Haigh.
Arlene is survived by four children: sons, Donald “Eugene” Young and David Young (Sherry), and daughter, Audrey Pellegrino, all of Altoona; and son, Jody Young (Barb) of Glasgow; nine grandchildren: Ryan Young (Janet), Tony Young (Melissa), David Young (Alexis), Nicholas Young (Destiny), Steven Young, Johnny Pellegrino (Tara), Jason Pellegrino, Jennifer Polanowski (Ray) and
Joshua Young; 16 great-grandchildren: Paula, Savannah, Nathan, Bridgette, Davina, Kailee,

Pellegrino; and six great-great-grandchildren and one expected soon.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Gillmen; a sister, Nancy Wininger (Ron); and a great-grandson, Christopher Young.
Arlene’s greatest treasure was her family. She followed in her mother’s footsteps and became a foster parent at a young age. She cared for, loved and helped mold the lives of dozens of kids throughout her years. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very blessed to have their grandmother be their caretaker and role model.
Arlene loved to be chauffeured to yard sales by her daughter, Audrey. Arlene could navigate through Altoona better than a modern-day GPS. She also loved to play Bingo, make homemade ice cream, work word puzzles, read novels, listen to country music, drink Pepsi and spend time with her dog, Abby.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at
4 p.m., with the Rev. James Smeal officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
