Doris Jean (Pearce) Shissler

Doris Jean (Pearce) Shissler, 88, of Homewood Living, Martinsburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of Katherine Marie (Zimmerman) Pearce and Guy Zane Pearce.

Doris was a 1954 graduate of Altoona High School and continued post-graduate work in Pittsburgh, where she completed training to be a medical secretary.

On Sept. 13, 1958, she married Simon Clyde Shissler at First Methodist Church in Pittsburgh.

Both Doris and Simon spent many years of their careers at The Hite Co., working at branch locations in Williamsport and Indiana, Pa., and eventually relocating to Altoona, residing in Tipton until they retired. Doris was a lighting design consultant.

Surviving are a son, Mark P. Shissler, of Altoona; a sister-in-law, Paulie Bird, of Lancaster; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Simon, in 2010; and an infant brother, Richard Dutt Pearce.

Doris was most importantly a Christian who participated in many church activities. Her faith defined her. She grew up attending Fourth Lutheran Church in Altoona. Later, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Indiana and Trinity United Methodist Church in Bellwood.

Family and friends were loved and cherished by Doris. Traveling, camping, bowling, researching genealogy and working patiently on jigsaw puzzles were all favorite things she enjoyed.

In celebration of Doris' life, friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, at Bice Memorial Chapel at Homewood Living, Martinsburg. The Rev. Gerald McCuller will officiate. Inurnment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Altoona.
