Dennis Paul Hatch, 74, of Altoona, died early Monday evening at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Beverly George II and Mary Edith (Lasher) Hatch.
He married Cheryl A. Weaver on Sept. 23, 1972, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl; two daughters, Jill M. Houser (Matt) of Pittsburgh and Carlie J. Hatch of Altoona; three grandchildren: Riley Farrar and Evan Houser, both of Pittsburgh, and Quinn Hatch, who was raised in the home; aunt, Judy Hatch; cousin, Kenny "Budman" Hatch, who was his best golfing buddy and travel companion to his beloved Notre Dame and Myrtle Beach; sister-in-law, Janet Myers (Jean-Michel Guldmann) of Columbus, Ohio; nephews, Michael Myers (Angela) and Patrick Myers; "little brother," Stanley "SJ" Blazier of Williamsport; Dennis and Jane Roland, who were always there when needed; and numerous extended family members.
Dennis was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise and Patricia.
Mr. Hatch was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona.
He was a 1968 graduate of Altoona Area High School and attended classes at Juniata College.
He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran.
Dennis had been employed as a conductor for Penn Central Railroad, then Conrail, and finally retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad following 37½ years' total service.
He enjoyed playing bocce, bowling, golfing, reading and playing pinochle.
Dennis was a Notre Dame football fanatic. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
He was a member of Hiram Lodge #616, F and AM, where he served as custodian for four years. He was a past member of the Jaffa Shrine Color Guard, member and past governor of the Altoona Moose and a member of the Bavarian Aid Society. He held numerous offices in the Unter Uns Society and was a member of the Swiss Club.
Dennis was a 50-year member of Camp Roebuck.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Henry officiating.
