Carol S. Myers, 82, of Loretto, entered into the arms of Jesus, her savior, on Tuesday. She was surrounded by her adoring family. Carol was born in Altoona, daughter of the late John Fred Vaughn and Rose Marie (Noonan) Vaughn. She attended Altoona Catholic High School.

Carol was married to her beloved husband and soul mate, Thomas E. Myers, of Gallitzin, for 66 years.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas E. Myers II, on April 23, 2025.

Carol is survived by her children: Susan (Karl) Lee, Patrick (Sue), Sandra (Jeff) Banfield, Dan (Barb), Frank and Mike (Aimee). She has 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Carol was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Basilica, Loretto.

She was a Girl Scout Leader, a facilitator for teen and marriage encounters, taught CCD for several years and sang baritone for the Sweet Adelines for 25 years. Above all, Carol found her greatest joy in her family and her pets.

She cherished her role as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother “Gigi.”

Carol will be remembered for her love of family, her pets, cooking, playing piano and her compassionate, giving nature. She had such a kind, gentle, loving heart and always had a smile for anyone she encountered. Her legacy of kindness, generosity and compassion will live in the hearts that were blessed to have known her.

The family offers special thanks to Dr. Nicole Clapper and staff, 365 Hospice (Samantha and Catherine) and to personal caregiver, Rebecca.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at Gibbons-Houser Funeral Home Inc., 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil prayer service will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Basilica in Loretto, with the Very Rev. Father John Byrnes, celebrant. Interment at the church cemetery.
