Thomas C. Gheer

Feb. 19, 1950 – June 26, 2025

Thomas C. Gheer, 75, of Tyrone, passed away June 26, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Tom had two great loves, scouting and travel. He became involved in scouting as a young adult and remained active for over 50 years. A member of the Order of the Arrow, Tom embodied the order's commitment to brotherhood, cheerfulness and service, both in scouting and in his everyday life.

Tom was an advisor to three Lodge Chiefs of Nachamawat Lodge, attended many regional and national conferences and received recognitions, including Vigil memberships and many service awards. He also served as a unit commissioner to local Scout Packs and Troops in the Bellwood area. Tom was a dedicated supporter of Camp Anderson near Tyrone and a longtime supporter of scouting in Blair County.

An ardent traveler, Tom loved to take trips with friends, especially the Oceans Eleven group. Never one to be deterred by challenges or difficulties, he traveled all over the world to many destinations including Peru, Alaska and South Africa. Tom was great at staying in touch, sending daily email and frequent cards by mail to those he cared about.

Tom will be missed by many, including friends and family. He is survived by two brothers, Eric of Bellwood and Barry of Rochester, N.Y.; a sister, Paulette (John) Davis of Tyrone; and a niece, Morgann (Bryan) Parrish of Lancaster.

In light of Tom's dedication to scouting, memorial donations in his name may be made to Juniata Valley Council, Scouting America, 9 Taylor Drive, Reedsville, PA 17084; and to Camp Andersen, P.O. Box 221, Tyrone, PA 16686.

Arrangements are by Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone.
