Michele M. (Young) Sauers, 72, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at Embassy at Hearthside Nursing Facility, State College, in the arms of her loving husband and surrounded by loved ones.
Michele was born on Sept. 15, 1952, in Altoona, daughter of the late Edward L. and Helen E. (Koch) Young. On June 12, 2004, she married the love of her life, Stephen E. Sauers, at Simpson-Temple United Parish.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Brown (Michael); sons, Donald E. Rhodes III (Jayme) and Garth Rhodes (Ranee); and her grand-
children: Grace and Michael Brown, Finley, Adelaide, Jesse and Henry Rhodes, Cooper Rother and Granger and Gabriella Rhodes. She is also survived by her former husband, Donald E. Rhodes II; a brother, Edward L. Young (Joanel); and nieces, Hope DiMaio and Sidney Young.
Michele was a 1970 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a 1972 graduate of Altoona Vocational-Technical School as a licensed practical nurse. She worked as a private duty nurse and a homemaker, and in her later years worked as a communications specialist for the Central Blair Recreation and Park Commission and social security rep payee for the Blair County Community Action Agency.
She had been an active member of Simpson-Temple United Parish, sharing her love of cooking at the church's Love Feasts.
Michele was gifted with making crafts and holiday decorations, reading and gardening, but her greatest joys were cooking and baking. She was known for her signature chicken parmesan and delicious desserts for any special occasion. She proudly attended every school, sport and music function for her children, both home and away, and served as a nurse for school field trips.
Friends will be received at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, from 4 until the 7 p.m. service, with Pastor Rich Morris officiating.
Burial will be held privately at Alto-Reste Park at the convenience of the family.
