Joseph R., 87, of Gallitzin passed away Aug. 27, 2025. He was born April 16, 1938, in Altoona, the son of the late Joseph J. and Mercedes (Biter) Quinn.
He was preceded in death by his son Kevin; brothers, Patrick and Thomas; and sister, Bernadette Allen. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol M. (Mastalski) Quinn; children: Leslie Quinn (Ken Fisher) of Cresson, Christopher of Wayne, Mark (Angie) of Reigelsville and Colleen (James) Leleck of Springdale; and sister, Jean Vanik of Dublin, Ohio.
He was the proud Pap of Kaitlin (Brian) Erickson, Kevin (Lindsey) Quinn, Kylie Byrnes, Peyton, Abigail, Madilynn Quinn, Quinn and Vivian Leleck; and great-grandchildren: Raegan, Maeve, Rowan Erickson and Riley Quinn; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joe was a United States Air Force veteran, who worked at PennDOT as an inspector, then as a signalman for the railroad, retiring in 2000 from Norfolk Southern.
An avid golfer, he was a member of The Summit Country Club for over 40 years, where he enjoyed golfing with his friends. He was a member of the Gallitzin Moose Lodge 185 for 49 years, Gallitzin Legion Post 174, Gallitzin Italian Mutual Society and a past member of the Gallitzin Sewage Authority, the Gallitzin High School Alumni Association and the Lions Club.
He was proud of his Irish heritage, having traveled to Ireland on several occasions. He was also a long-time fan of Notre Dame football, and always enjoyed singing Irish tunes with the Quinns and the Plunketts.
Surrounded by family and friends, we will gather at his daughter's home, 606 Keystone Ave., Cresson, at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, to celebrate Joe's life the Irish way -- with food, music and laughter, raising a glass in his honor, just as he would want.
