Bruce Alan Lingenfelter, 88, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, in State College. Born in Altoona, Bruce's life was marked by his generous spirit, selfless nature, chronic extroversion and an unparalleled sense of humor.
Bruce was a beloved husband to Judith Lingenfelter, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. He is dearly missed by his sisters, Margerie (Marge) Lewis and Patricia (Tish) Dorfmeister. His legacy continues through his four sons: Mitch Osborne; Steve Osborne; Robert Lingenfelter and his spouse, Sara Lingenfelter; and Keith Lingenfelter and his spouse, Rebecca Musso; and 11 grandchildren collectively.
A proud alumnus of the Pennsylvania State University, Bruce earned a Bachelor of Science in Business. He initially worked for the Pennsylvania Financial Group and later channeled his expertise and entrepreneurial spirit into the TLC Financial Group, a financial, investment and life insurance company, he ran alongside co-founder, Mary Chuhinka. His professional integrity and acumen were legendary. Colleagues and clients continue to cite memories of the personal and dedicated touch Bruce brought to his work with them.
Bruce always found ways to be involved and give back to the community with different organizations, including, but not limited to the State College Area Jaycees, Easter Seals, the Pennsylvania Military Museum, Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, Mount Nittany Health Foundation Charity Ball, Republican party Chair for State College, Penn State Centre Stage and he was a vital piece to the renovation and re-opening of the State Theatre.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from 1958-60, followed by an active reserve duty of four years. Bruce was a true history buff and he held a renowned collection of World War I and World War II military memorabilia, one to rival many museums.
Perhaps one of the most memorable aspects of Bruce's character was his love of humor. He often delighted friends and family by dressing up as the comedian Reverend Jack Daniels, playing Santa Claus for friends and the community, and becoming a founding member of the unaccredited and hard to find Lingenfelter University (go Dodo Birds!). His presence and spirit made every gathering brighter.
For friends and family, Bruce was the guy with the best story at the picnic and the biggest helping at dessert. His cheerful generosity, plus an ever-ready stash of one-liners will be missed. We say goodbye to Bruce not with silence, but with laughter, because that's exactly how he'd want it.
A graveside service will be held for close family and friends at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, 105 Old Boalsburg Road, Boalsburg.
A celebration of life gathering will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Village at Penn State, in the first floor community room, 160 Lions Hill Road, State College. If attending the celebration of life, please park behind the main facility, entering the main doors under the blue awning.
