Kathleen D. ‘Kathy’ Moschella-Eberhardt

Oct. 29, 1950 – July 15, 2025

Kathleen D. "Kathy" Moschella-Eberhardt, 74, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at Midtown Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center after suffering since May 2023 of many complications while battling cancer. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late William and Margaret (Ciavarella) Moschella.

She is survived by a daughter, Dena Vellone; two grandchildren, Olivia Beard (Stefan) and Sophia Vellone; three great-grandchildren: Mia and Ava Beard and Emma Ozechoski; her significant other, Russell Mento; three sisters: Billie Coffman, Teresa Moschella and Lori Keller; and many nieces and nephews.

Kathy was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Gary Keller.

Kathy was a 1968 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School. She received a BS in speech communications and theatre at Carlow College and a master's degree in counseling at IUP. She started her career as an English tutor for foreign students at Carlow College. She then worked at Saint Francis University with Upward Bound and their summer theater program. Her next position as guidance counselor at Bishop Guilfoyle High School combined her two loves of working with students and theater, where she was able to direct them in their education and their annual musical.

After BGHS, she was hired as the director of New Options, New Choices at Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center, for over 15 years. Kathy then was the adult program counselor at Penn State Altoona until her retirement.

Kathy loved helping people. She volunteered her time at the Prison Society, St. Vincent de Paul and loved to offer her time at the refreshment stand at Penn State Altoona.

Kathy's interests varied, from raising many cats, reading, being politically active, yard sales, shopping, family time at the beach and all family gatherings. She was an avid Steelers fan and loved Altoona Curve baseball.

Kathy was known for her great wit, her great sense of humor and her contagious smile. Many have said that she could bring humor to any kind of situation.
