Arthur Thomas Wood

Arthur Thomas Wood, 94, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona. He was the son of William and Clara Wood.

In 1960, he married Mary Jean Cross. She preceded him in death in 2023.

He is survived by a daughter, Rebekah Wood Greenland, and her husband, Vince Greenland; four granddaughters: Emma Franicola (Will), Maggie Greenland (fiancé, Tyler McGraw), Alizah Greenland and Olivia Greenland.

He proudly served his country during the Korean conflict in the U.S. Air Force.

Upon returning home, he attended Penn State University and graduated with a degree in education. He also obtained a master's degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Ph.D. from Temple University.

Arthur enjoyed a long career with the Altoona Area School District, where he taught math at Keith Junior High School before serving as a guidance counselor at both Keith and Altoona Area High School. He retired in 1993 as the school psychologist and head of pupil special services.

He served on the AASD school board and numerous other boards throughout the community, as well as being a member of the Jaffa Shrine.

Friends and family will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2025, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.

Interment will be held privately at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Altoona Area Public Library, of which he was on the board for many years.
