Thomas R. Bookhamer, 93, of Antis Township, died peacefully Tuesday evening, surrounded by his loving family at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late John Thomas and Mildred E. (Irvine) Bookhamer.
Tom was twice married, first on Sept. 25, 1954, to Shirley J. Davensizer, who preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 2001. He then married Jeanne (Yingling) Hostler.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; three children: Todd R. (Sue), Melissa K. (Mike) Kissell and Thomas W.; his four grandchildren: Nicole (Kaleb) Fleck, Sydney (Bryant) Sweitzer and Tara and Kara; three great-grandchildren: Kallie, Breah and Madden; and his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Kay Bookhamer; and his beloved dog, Sandy.
Tom was a 1950 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He retired as a production worker at Appleton Papermill, Roaring Spring.
Tom enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time at the family cottage. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the bench around the family pond and exploring the creek.
His greatest love was precious time spent with his children, grandchildren and family.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2025, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Randy Zitterbart officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
The family suggests that contributions in Tom's memory be made to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
