Shirley A. Cunningham, 89, of Altoona, passed away Monday. She was born in Philipsburg, the daughter of the late James and Violet (Reynolds) Cunningham.
She is survived by her sister, Linda, with whom she resided; as well as many nieces and nephews from both her extended and immediate family, including Patti, Pam, Gene, Shaun, Debbie, Rick, Heidi, Lois, Mary Lou and Ashley; and all the wonderful friends and neighbors she has made over the years, including those most recently at Graystone, all of whom were like family to her.
Shirley proudly served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Division in Japan. When she came home, she went to work for Puritan/Warnaco Sportswear as an inspector until her retirement 39 years later.
In her younger years, she and Linda enjoyed camping, fishing, motorcycle riding and bowling. Later, she went on to enjoy the Steelers, Penn State and Bills games, cooking, jigsaw puzzles and difficult crosswords.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the ladies like Robin and Tara and all the other wonderful ladies of UPMC Home Health & Hospice, who made her last days more bearable.
At Shirley's adamant "desire," a private viewing will be held for family only.
Friends are invited to a committal service with military honors at noon Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Chapel at Blair Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone.
