Reed T. “Butch” Johnson Jr., 74, of Antis Township, formerly of Tipton, died early Saturday morning at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. He was born in Tyrone, a son of the late Reed T. and Marjorie J. (Hudson) Johnson.
On Sept. 7, 1991, he married Penny Ann Clinich. She preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 2003.
Butch is survived by his daughter, Jessica A. Johnson; a stepdaughter, Julie McConnell; two grandchildren, Judson Binkley and Dr. Olivia Wertz; and his five siblings: Fred, Craig and Greg Johnson, Deborah (Dave) Fraundorfer and Pamela Meredith.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eric.
Butch was a 1969 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and retired as a union carpenter.
A free spirit and avid fisherman, Butch loved traveling across the country in his motorhome, with boat in tow, enjoying life and fishing.
He loved all kinds of animals, affectionately calling them “critters.”
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood. Interment will be at Eastlawn Cemetery, Tyrone.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that contributions in Butch’s memory be made to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
