Ray E. ‘Sonny’ Zettle

Ray E. “Sonny” Zettle, 80, of Beverly Hills, Fla., formerly of Bellwood, passed away May 4, 2025, at Tampa General Hospital Crystal River. Ray was born in Altoona, the son of Ray S. and Buelah (Quarry) Zettle. His father passed away when he was two years old, and his mother remarried to Clarence Welch, who raised Ray.

He moved from Bellwood to Citrus County in 1988, and purchased Watson’s Fish Camp in Hernando, Fla. Ray was a retired plumber/pipefitter and a member of the Plumber-Pipefitters Union in Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra McCormick.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra J. (Davis) Zettle; three children: Lisa and her husband, Raymond “Ray-Ray” McConnell; Ray “Butch” Zettle Jr. and his wife, Amy; and Shawn Zettle; two sisters, Sharlene Bathurst and Nancy Roebuck; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Private cremation will take place under the direction of Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in Lecanto, Fla.

A celebration of life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Lakeside Ranch, 4554 E. Windmill Drive, Inverness, FL 34453. Attire is casual.
