Mary K. Wheeler

June 30, 1947 – June 12, 2025

Wheeler

Mary Wheeler, 77, of Ebensburg, passed away at home Thursday morning after an extended illness. She joined her beloved husband, Frank R. Weidlich Sr., who passed away in May 2024. She was born in Monrovia, Liberia, daughter of the late Wilson and Kathryn (Rumbaugh) Wheeler.

She is survived by her sister, Susan Makosy (Jack) of Ebensburg; and predeceased by her brothers, Paul and William.

She was the beloved mother of Susan Shannon (John DeMaria) of Hatboro and David M. Shannon of Ebensburg through her previous marriage to the late David A. Shannon. She was the beloved stepmother of Frank R. Weidlich Jr. (Renee) and Robin Snyder (Steve) of Altoona; and grandmother to Alyssa J. and Hunter R. Weidlich and Steve Snyder Jr. (Chelsea); and great-grandmother to Divaya and Rayna Snyder.

Mary was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, having earned her B.A. in English from Penn State and her J.D. from the Duquesne University School of Law after raising her two kids as a single mom.

She practiced law in Blair and Cambria counties from 1993 until her retirement. She specialized in bankruptcy because she wanted to help people who struggled like she had as a single mom.

She enjoyed reading, knitting and spending time with the blended family that she and Frank made. Mary and Frank enjoyed being the life of the party and found adventure together every day.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, June 16, 2025, at Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will immediately follow in the Stevens Memorial Chapel. Interment at Calvary Cemetery will be private.
