Lorraine Anne ‘Peggy’ Bieniek

She married Walter Bieniek on Sept. 1, 1962. He preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 2007.

Peggy is survived by her three children and their spouses: Joseph Bieniek of Saxton, Mary and Christopher Powell of Fairfax, Va., and Janet and David Zakrzwski of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; her grandchildren: Halee Bieniek and Joseph, Erin and Michael Powell; her brother, Jack, and his wife, Shirley Donoughe; and many nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Altoona Catholic High School in 1948, eventually working as a medical assistant.

Peggy experienced a great sense of joy and fulfillment in her Catholic faith. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church (which became Our Lady of Fatima) in Altoona, St. Joseph’s in Bellwood and eventually St. Mary Parish in Oak Ridge.

Peggy enjoyed spending time with her family, and she and Walt loved traveling and going to Altoona Curve games. Despite her husband and three children graduating from Penn State, she was a big Notre Dame football fan. She was an avid reader, always with her nose in a book, and she especially loved mysteries.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona; and from 9:30 to 9:50 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 623 E. Third St., Bellwood, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with Father Michael Pleva, officiating.

Private entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
