John P. Woods, 97, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday. He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late Thomas F. and Anna S. (Helsel) Woods.
He married June E. Anderson in 1949, and she preceded him in death in 1998 after sharing 49 years of marriage.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan P. Lingenfelter in Maryland; a son, Timothy P., and wife, Kathy, of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren: Julie, Justin, Alison, Annie and Michael; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sally Janeiro.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey; and siblings: Anna Maher, Elizabeth Hartman, Mary Metris, Thomas and James.
John graduated from Hollidaysburg High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He retired from F.L. Smithe Co. as a machinist supervisor for 30 years and was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing and shotgun shoots.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday June 11, 2025, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. with Father Alan E. Thomas officiating. Private committal will be at New St. Mary Cemetery.
