John E. Soldner

John E. Soldner, 91, Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Anton and Anna (Ehgartner) Soldner.

On Sept. 8, 1956, he married Ann V. Schreiber at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona. They enjoyed 66 years together before she preceded him in death on June 6, 2023.

Surviving are four children: Terry Soldner of Ephrata, Beth Lay of Tabernash, Colo., Steve Soldner (Joannie) of Butler and Jennifer Soldner of Altoona; 11 grandchildren: Sean, Karly, Alaina, Patrick, Kira, Robert, Andrew, Maria, Emily, Megan and Spencer; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charles Lay; and his siblings: Ann Fliegerbauer, Anthony, Louis, Joseph, Carl, Elsie Thalhauser and Mary Lenhart.

John was a graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Soldner retired from Ward Trucking.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

John enjoyed gardening, camping and boating at Raystown Lake. In his youth, he played baseball in many area leagues.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the convenience of the family. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
