George E. Baker, 61, of Altoona, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday evening at his residence. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Elden D. and Marian (Johnson) Baker.
George married Susan M. Yeager on Jan. 28, 1989.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years; his two sons, Yuriy Baker (Alex Hamel) of New York and Trevor N. Baker of Altoona; two sisters, Michele Fiore (David) of Duncansville and Gayle Daniels (Bob) of Altoona; his sister-in-law, Amy Yeager-Banks; and several nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pete and Sally Yeager; and a brother-in-law, Randy Banks.
He was a 1983 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School and attended Williamsport Community College.
George retired as parts manager at Fiore Buick after 39 years of service and had recently worked at Home Depot as a sales associate.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
George was a board member of the John Kennedy Chapter Trout Unlimited. He had been active in the AYSO as a coach, board member and referee. George was a volunteer at UPMC Altoona and the UPMC Family Hospice program. He also was very involved with various activities at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church over the years.
He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, music and history. George especially loved spending time with his children and family.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2025, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Brian Norris, celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
