Dr. Ramon C. Burket

Surrounded by his loving family, Dr. Ramon C. Burket, 90, of Roaring Spring, peacefully passed away Thursday evening at The Village at Morrisons Cove. He was born at home in Roaring Spring, son of the late Ross A. Jr. and Mildred (McIlnay) Burket.

Ramon married Elda Kaye Smith on Oct. 5, 1984.

He is survived by his wife; and three sons: Kevin Ross (Corrie) of North Carolina, Dr. Jeffrey Scott (Maria) of Pittsburgh and Martin Ian of Altoona; and two stepchildren, Andrea Paul of Duncansville and Scott Paul (Elizabeth) of Altoona. Also, he is survived by four grandchildren: Dr. Aaron Burket (Shelby), Lindsay Burket Wallace, Angel Burket (Cynthia) and Jessica (Gigi) Burket; four stepgrandchildren: Olivia Day, Kyla Paul, Christian Paul and Niyah Gransbury; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Evelynn Wallace; and a sister, Signe Dellinger (Roger).

Ramon was educated in the Roaring Spring schools and graduated from Roaring Spring High School in 1953. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Juniata College in 1957, and graduating from Temple University School of Medicine in 1961, Dr. Burket completed a rotating internship at the former Altoona Hospital and performed postgraduate study of Internal Medicine at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Fort Howard, Md. He became Board Certified in Family Practice in 1975.

From 1965 to 2008, Dr. Burket practiced family medicine in Roaring Spring, was on the active staff of the former Nason Hospital and served as the school and football team physician. He was on the medical staff of The Village at Morrisons Cove and Homewood Retirement Center.

Professionally, Dr. Burket was a member of the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania and Blair County Medical Societies, the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Joggers Association. He was a member and Fellow of the American College of Family Physicians and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Burket was a baptized and active member of Roaring Spring First Church of the Brethren, served as the Board Chairman and was on the Finance and Facility Committee. He was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Village of Morrisons Cove and promoted the Village programs for over 30 years. Ramon was elected as a School Board member in the early '70s.

Dr. Burket enjoyed hunting, fishing, jogging and golfing. He completed 13 marathons, three of which were the Boston Marathon. During his retirement, he volunteered in the Central High School Calculus Class. He advocated for quality education and believed that we should be "lifelong learners."

Family and friends will be received for visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2025, at Roaring Spring First Church of the Brethren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. David Crumrine. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Martinsburg.

Memorial contributions may be given to Roaring Spring First Church of the Brethren; the Good Samaritan Fund of The Village at Morrisons Cove of Martinsburg; or Juniata College of Huntingdon.
