Douglas Gregory Tompkins, 60, of Tyrone, died unexpectedly Monday at his residence. He was born in Greensboro, N.C., the son of William Herbert and Margery (Blankenship) Tompkins.
He is survived by his mother, Margery of Columbia, S.C.; his wife, Cathy (Glenn) Tompkins of Tyrone; a daughter, Emily Dorman (Nathan) of Pittsburgh; his brothers: David, Michael and Jeffrey Tompkins; brother-in-law, Thomas B. Glenn (Liane) of Boston; nephews, Jeremy and Tyler Glenn; his aunt, Nancy Rumpler (Bill); and uncle, Robert Tompkins (Kaye).
Douglas was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Altoona. He was a Christian scholar, loved politics, was a former semi-pro soccer player, taught ballroom dancing and was an avid stereophile in sound technics.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at noon Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 200 Third St., Altoona, with the Rev. Drew McCaffery officiating. A graveside service will follow at Blair Memorial Park.
