Dorothy Ann Heaton, 96, of Tyrone, and a guest at Centre Care, passed away Sunday. She was born in Houtzdale, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Rynish.
On Dec. 18, 1948, in Houtzdale, she married Roy J. "Jim" Heaton, who preceded her in death on Feb. 29, 2024. She is survived by four sons: Thomas C. (Mary) of Summerville, S.C., Mitchell R. (Felicia) of Alexandria, Russell L. (Robin) of Geeseytown and David K. (Crystal) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Elma Doman and Joanne Dietrick, both of Houtzdale.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lester Heaton; two daughters, Wendy M. Reitz and Regina Ann McDaniel; a grandson, Matthew McDaniel; a brother, Mike Rynish; and a sister, Mary Bodnar.
Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of Houtzdale-Woodward Joint High School and a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Rita.
She was a baker and cake decorator by trade and worked for 10 years at L. Grief & Brothers of Bellwood, as well as the Penn State Bakery, retiring in 1991.
Dorothy enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, painting and playing cards. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and was committed to passing on European traditions to them.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2025, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, with Father Michael Pleva officiating.
