Delbert E. "Screech" Hamer, 87, of Tyrone, passed away Wednesday. He was born in Tyrone, the son of the late Pearl H. Beckwith.
He was married Jan. 1, 1961, to Bonnie L. (Rossman) Hamer, who survives in Tyrone.
Also surviving are his son, Michael T. Hamer (Kimberly) of Warriors Mark; his grandchildren, Alyssa A. Stroup (Dusty) and Emily E. Zitterbart (Jared); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen P. Price; and several half-brothers and sisters.
Delbert was the last of his immediate family.
He was a 1958 graduate of Tyrone High School and a faithful member and former Trustee at Christ United Methodist Church.
Delbert retired from Chicago Rivet & Machine Co. Sept. 7, 2006.
He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of The BPOE Elks Lodge # 212, Tyrone, and a member and Color Guard Sergeant in the Tyrone Gardner Guards.
Delbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and, most of all, his family. He was an avid football fan of the Tyrone Eagles and Penn State. He coached numerous teener and minor league baseball, Tyrone youth football and Lions Lumber & Lightning Softball Teams. He also ran the chain gang at Tyrone football games for many years.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone; and from
10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, June 30, 2025, at Tyrone Alliance Church, with the Rev. Carl A. Schmidt officiating. Interment will be at Bald Eagle Cemetery.
