Robert R. Schmittle, 83, Hollidaysburg, passed away Sunday evening at his residence. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Robert R. Schmittle and Dorothy May (Masterson) Schmittle-Kreutner.
On Oct. 25, 1983, he married Kathleen A. Taylor in Hollidaysburg.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Bradford of Harrisburg; and two brothers, William in California and Thomas (Patricia) in Florida.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Butler; and a brother, Ronald E. Schmittle.
Robert was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School. He received his master's degree from Shippensburg University in public administration.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and became a seaman in the Merchant Marines.
He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
Robert enjoyed camping, traveling, the Atlanta Braves, Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, with Father Alan Thomas officiating.
Committal will be at Alto-Reste Park.
