Robert E. Decker, 86, of Altoona, passed away at his residence early Tuesday morning. He was born in Goshen, N.Y., son of the late Earl and Ethel (House) Decker.
Robert married Bonnie L. Powell at the Edith Davis Eve Memorial Chapel at Penn State Altoona on Oct. 8, 1983.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years; a son, Brian Decker in Tennessee; a daughter, Helene Gardner (Jason) of Duncansville; two stepsons, Robert L. Stoudnour (Margaret) of York and Eric S. Stoudnour (Kelli) of Hollidaysburg; a grandson, Ben Satka; and two stepgrandchildren, Taylor Lee and Hunter Scott Stoudnour; and his brother, Donald Decker in New York.
Robert retired as a Master Sergeant in 1977 from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service, which included service in the Vietnam War from 1970-71. He later worked for Courtesy Motors in the parts department.
Robert was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Coalport VFW.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on model airplanes and was a fan of the Indy 500, where he attended 15 races or so.
Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 511 20th St., Altoona, with Father Lubomir Strecok, celebrant. Committal with military honors will be held at Alto-Reste Park.
