Lynn D. Hoffman, 76, formerly of Altoona, passed away Saturday at home due to illness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Hoffman; mother, Helen Hoffman; and a brother, Gregory Hoffman.
Surviving are his wife, Salee; daughters, Tamara (Todd Koehler) and Tracy (Lee) Harp; grandchildren: Karson, Cassidy, Emory, Isabelle and Harrison; siblings: Carol Landes, Wendy Brendle and Jay Hoffman; as well as
numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and others that Lynn dearly loved.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran.
Lynn graduated from Penn State with a bachelor's degree in nursing and held several different nursing positions in Altoona, including Hillview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center and Mercy/Bon Secour Hospital.
He loved many things: his family, his garden and plants in general -- especially if he could share them with friends and family; various auctions, including Morrison's Cove Produce, where he was affectionately known as "Pap" and could often be seen wearing his fluorescent hat with his number 66.
Lynn rarely had trouble talking to people and often made new friends wherever he went. He could also be passionate about certain topics and could easily be described as a "piece of work," just like many of the people he knew.
He was quite the collector of things and had a special affinity for flashlights of all kinds.
Thank you to the nursing staff at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, who helped take care of him in the ER, on 6 Ashman, 8 Ashman and 10 Rose. Thank you also to AseraCare Hospice staff for helping with those last hours.
No funeral will be held at this time. The family is planning a Celebration of Life in Lynn's honor later this summer.
